HKR KL112 (People's Uprising Rally)

I've never posted about politics before. It's not that I'm not interested in it. I am, sort of. As a lively young person I don't centre my life around it like older people do, of course, but I still keep an eye on what's happening in Malaysia's politics.

Credit to my parents as my dad broadcast the news to the whole house as well as his thoughts and feelings. He used to read newspaper (god it's like ages ago) but now he boycotts all of the newspapers and TV news because they're no longer honest and fair in their reports.

Nowadays, the Internet holds more truth than newspapers which have been filtered through a billion times.

For your information, I'm not with any of the political parties. I think the people have the fairest views. We choose, we vote only those who will lead and treat us best. That's all we want, really. And as for now, obviously the government is rotting like a 30days old corpse. So yeah, there is a need for change. They need to be pulled out from their comfort zone and land on their asses on the concrete.

They have been sitting up there too long. They think they have power. What they don't know is power comes in numbers. The people will have a much greater collective power.

On Jan 11, once again the people stood up for a rally, calling for reformation. It's called Himpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat (People's Uprising Rally) and held at Stadium Merdeka, KL. They had to walk for a while before arriving. This time, the rally isn't illegal. So no messy and dirty business by the police with their tear gas and beat-ups of innocent people asking for a change. Not like the rallies before, especially the Bersih ones.

There are SO many people this time. Why? Because all the anti-government groups are coming out to defend themselves. The colours represents the right groups with their own causes. Like the Bersih ones with their yellow shirts, calling for clean and fair elections. Like the Lynas ones with their green shirts, calling for the Kuantan Lynas radioactive problem which harms the people there and pollutes the environment. Like the Women for Malaysia ones with their purple shirts, calling for anti-corruption and anti-women discrimination. Like the Hindraf ones with their red shirts, calling for a stop to discriminatory policies which favour ethnic Malays over Hindus. They all held placards and flags with logos and mottos of rights groups and political parties.

It's a colourful scene, one that CLEARLY shows the 1Malaysia spirit of Malaysians. Unfortunately, this unity is against the government, not for it. Najib's 1Malaysia motto actually backfired against him, how ironic is that?

The KL112 event is an afternoon one, from 2pm to 5pm, participated by PR-allied NGOs. To my knowledge, several rallies were planned worldwide to go simultaneously, including Melbourne, London, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Egypt, Dubai and so on.

Police reported that the number of people was estimated at 40000. The real number though, was nearer to 500000. Look at the people! It's like the World Cup finals or Olympic finals. God. The protestors dispersed peacefully afterward, contrary to the clash scenes between them and the police during the previous rallies, which left a lot of people injured and hurt badly.

The next General Election is near.

A corrupted government must be changed to a just one that fights for the people and protects their rights.

This is the voice of the citizens of Malaysia. This is a call, a cry, a plea for change.

The time is now.

Change is within reach.

I am proud to be a Malaysian. =)
