In Search of Penang Street Art

One note before I start to blog about this post:
I WAS BAKED UNDER THE SUN.

Okay, that said, today we were searching for Street Art that was causing all the hype in Penang. According to my knowledge, some really talented artists came to paint murals around Georgetown to attract more tourists and local people there and to increase awareness on heritage protection.

My friends then asked around and got about 17 people to join in this visit to Georgetown to search for the murals, or known as Street Art, me included. Obviously this is also treated as a friends outing and we had much fun talking and joking around.

We took a bus straight down to the jetty first. All the way we talked like there is no tomorrow. Among friends, topics will always be free flow.

The colour in this photo is just so pretty.
Then we had breakfast near Chew Jetty because everyone was SO hungry. Food was needed to fuel our energy for the long walk ahead.

Part of the group in front of Chew Jetty entrance, taken by a kind foreign tourist so that we could all get in the picture.

Houses on either side, floor made from wooden planks.

THE FIRST MURAL. It's a fishing boat with a boy, his father and a cat on it.
Picture taking! Mine is in another camera.

Yours truly

Tortoises which scared me out of my wits because I thought they were fake.

2ND MURAL. THE BICYCLE IS REAL.
Friends doing funny acting, haha.
Yours truly.

I like the plant. LOL.
We came to Cannon Street!
3RD ART. THE CHAIR AND BOTTLE IS REAL.
YY laughing at the boy in the mural...LOL
Weird and funny acting by friends:

      AT

  THEM
HAHAHA this is a very funny chicken. When stomach is pressed, it emits a LOUD DYING SOUND. Very interesting.

THIS isn't a mural, but a picture made from thick black wire. It's an interesting piece of art. More to come.
Yours truly with the special Street Art MAP which saves a lot of time.
An art that wasn't listed in the map but a mural nonetheless. The words read: Our Art Is Dying. 我们的艺术正在消亡。
Another ART. 4th (on Map). This is on Ah Quee Street.

Funny acting again, haha.

This 5th one is just beside the 4th one. The motorcycle is real.
Yours truly on the motorcycle. The angle of light is nice.
Once again, funny acting.
Can you believe it's made from black wire??? It's only discernible up front. We all thought it was painted.
Can you see me? Haha. Look up, there's the 6th mural that we missed it the first time round. It's a man's face with hand.

Whee...tired, JY and I taking a brief rest inside a trishaw.

See, another wire art. These people must be really talented. Victoria Street.

WQ, JM and yours truly.

7th mural! This place is very shaded, so we spent a lot of time here, away from glaring sunlight.

The door was full of autographs.

Little girl: Hahahaha! Look at them!!                                   Little boy: Don't mind them, they're crazy.

8th mural. Real ball, real hoop.

We came to a Teochew HOUSE/HALL.It's very heritage-looking.
Very red face of yours truly.

RED RED FACES.

Having a rest after a long long LOOOOONG WALK.

Tired, breathless, but still extremely narcissistic, lol.
The elaborately decorated front door
Another wire art.
9th Mural on Love Lane.

Being crazy as usual

We wanted to go to an ice-cream shop nearby to have some ice-cream, but unfortunately we saw FOUR cockroaches around (two ran in), so feeling horrible at the thought we decided to walk in search of somewhere to eat.

We wanted to go to the New World Park Hawker Centre where there are a LOT of food and drinks to choose from. Unfortunately, after walking from Love Lane back to the jetty at 1pm, under the HOT AFTERNOON SUN, having our brains burnt to ashes, our exposed legs melted like ice and our face baked until a golden brown (for me it was RED), and close to getting sunburnt, we STILL couldn't find the place.

My body cells felt like they were on fire and trying to break the bonds between them and get out of my body. We were all on our boiling points and couldn't stand the heat. After rounding a corner, we stumbled onto a covered walkway in front of a restaurant. After some debate we decided to enter the restaurant and just have our lunch there, since everyone seemed horrified at the idea of more walking, with no guarantee of ever arriving our destination.

All of us in the restaurant.

The Menu of Mamu Kopitiam

First impression of the restaurant was great, it had a nice atmosphere, friendly waiters who welcomed us when we came in, and a general cheerfulness about it.
Unfortunately it was short-lived as
1, Many of the food/drinks listed in the menu were UNAVAILABLE
2, Took a long time to serve even though the restaurant was almost empty
3, Even upon serving, the food served was the WRONG food.
4, Food didn't taste good at all.

We were all greatly disappointed with the quality. But then, we were very hungry and hot and tired and there was no other choice but to come in here. If we had our way, we would definitely head to New World Park. The food there is AWESOME and there are so many choices.

Me and my ice-cream

My Panini FINALLY came after a lot of people finished their meal
As usual we had to rest and start taking photos!
JM, WQ, yours truly.
JY and yours truly
HM and yours truly.
Due to our incessant talking and photographing, we didn't notice that our bus was leaving. So we had to wait for another one at the bus station, which took like half an hour.

On the bus, we did two good deeds:
1, Paying for a very very very old man's bus fare because he didn't have the correct amount of money.
2, Giving up seats for two elderly ladies.

=D It makes us all warm and fuzzy inside!

My day has been made perfect with you guys! Agonizingly hot (IT'S SO HOT I MELTED!) and tired, but the photos taken with the Penang town murals are so worth it! A must-see for everyone, just be prepared to face the S.U.N. :)
