Book Review: The Vampire Diaries Part 1 & 2

The Vampire Diaries were written and published in the 1990s, but have made a surge of reappearance lately. It was also made into a TV show (instead of cinema film) that was aired in the US. The original four books were also published into two-in-ones, making them only two books, and L.J Smith has also written some new sequels for it.

Genre: Fantasy

Plot Summary:
Book 1: The Awakening: The story starts off with a beautiful girl, Elena Gilbert, high school student popular with guys at school. Elena and her friends met a new student, Italian guy Stefan Salvatore, who is cold and rejects her every advance. Upset by this, Elena vows to do anything to get him to pay attention on her and hope to attract him. In the process, Elena learns of Stefan's vampire secret, and also about his history with a girl who looks exactly like herself. They fell deeply in love when Elena accepted Stefan's secrets, but strange happenings are circling the town like vultures, and they have to find out what is going on...

Book 2: The Struggle: Damon Salvatore, Stefan's older brother was introduced at the end of the first book. Stefan has disappeared, and Elena had to find out where he is. Damon offered to help but Elena rejects his romantic advances on her, choosing to remain loyal to Stefan. Elena and friends eventually found Stefan, but Elena's diary was missing, which contents could be used against Stefan. Elena had to save the situation, but it comes with a price, involving Damon. The book ends on a high note, where something happened to Elena.

Opinion: Love this to bits! It's the one that definitely surpass Twilight. Couldn't put it down. I especially love Stefan, he's like a book boyfriend! Don't like Elena at first, but later she showed herself as much more than just a pretty face. Didn't like how she just caught on Stefan's attention that fast (we all know real life isn't that easy). But the end of the second book is a huge cliffhanger and will definitely leave readers wanting more. Style of writing is great too, cliffhangers and suspense on every turn of the page.
