Book Review: The Vampire Diaries Part 3 & 4

This book continues the story of Elena, Stefan and Damon. Written in the early 1990s by L.J Smith, it has made a comeback recently, and is even featured as a TV show in the US. The story was originally set as a trilogy, but due to overwhelming response, Smith wrote a fourth book for it.

Genre: Fantasy

Plot Summary:

Book 3 The Fury: The story continues after Elena drowned and was saved by Damon. Damon realized that Elena was alive, but as a vampire. Stefan found the two together and challenged Damon to a fight, which he lost because Elena in her confused mind helped Damon. After some time, Elena started to remember pieces of her old life back, and returned to Stefan as well as meeting up with her friends who tried to accept her vampire fact. Unfortunately all of them realized that all is not well, that some darker, bigger power was at work, trying to cause chaos to the town. They have to find out who, and why, before it was too late. There was some surprises in store at the end, and also the deaths of some pretty big characters.

Book 4 Dark Reunion: In this final part, the story is told from Elena's friend, Bonnie's point of view. Something bad was happening again after a few months, and girls are suddenly dying in horrible ways. Bonnie called Stefan and Damon back to the town, and together they try to piece together everything that was happening. After much research and confrontations, the secrets finally came out into the light. Everything boiled down to a last big battle, where Damon was shown as not so callous as he appeared to be. There was a slightly weird but quite satisfying ending to this story.

Opinion: Again, love this book a lot! There are many ups and downs, and shocks and surprises as well as plenty of suspense and action. It's not all happily-ever-after, since many characters died. But it was delivered with amazing writing style and enough middle action to keep things fast and not slack in the middle. Everything fit in perfectly and there are no scenes that are unnecessary.
